Tutoring

From our home page, click “Find a Tutor” to search by tutors. From a tutor’s page click the “Book a Tutoring Package” button to begin the booking process. Select a date and time for your first session that works for you. Complete the checkout process and pay. You will receive an email with instructions on accessing the virtual session via Zoom. After the evaluation in your first session, materials will be shipped to the address specified.

Tutoring packages include 4 personalized thirty-minute virtual sessions with a handwriting specialist for $199.  Additionally, students will be sent developmentally appropriate physical materials after the first session and given access to our digital handwriting software. For students working on print, physical materials will include a student edition workbook and manipulatives (Wood Pieces, Mat, Slate, Little Chalk Bits, Sponge Cubes, and Pencils for Little Hands). For students working on cursive materials will include a student edition workbook, Writing Journal, Building Writers book, and Regular Notebook Paper.

Sessions are virtual and accessed through a secure Zoom video meeting. Prior to each appointment a link to the Zoom session will be emailed to the email address provided. Additionally, you can access Zoom sessions through this website under your Student Dashboard. To access your Student Dashboard, log in to your account, hover over your profile at the top-right and select the Student Dashboard.  The Student Dashboard is also accessible through the blue navigation bar on the left-hand-side of the screen. From the Student Dashboard, click on the appropriate appointment to access the Zoom video meeting link. 

Students will take the Free Handwriting Assessment prior to the first session. The tutor will review the results and discuss any areas of focus. This may include common handwriting challenges such as reversals, spacing and line placement. Additionally, private tutoring sessions will focus on forming good handwriting habits including letter formation of capital and lowercase letters, numbers, and letter size. 

Tutors will typically assign about 10 minutes of daily practice between sessions.
Tutoring sessions need to be used within 90 days of purchase.

After you book the first session in your package, you can book the subsequent sessions through your Student Dashboard.  To access your Student Dashboard, log in to your account, hover over your profile at the top-right and select the Student Dashboard.  The student Dashboard is also accessible through the blue navigation bar on the left-hand-side of the screen. From the Student Dashboard you will see scheduled appointments and a link showing the remaining appointment slots to be booked. Through that link select an available session to book.

Please note that tutoring sessions can only be rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance. To reschedule a session, please visit your Student Dashboard.  To access your Student Dashboard, log in to your account, hover over your profile at the top-right and select the Student Dashboard.  The student Dashboard is also accessible through the blue navigation bar on the left-hand-side of the screen. From the Student Dashboard you will see scheduled appointments and an edit link to modify the session date and time.

You can communicate and share documents with your tutor through your tutoring account.  After booking a tutoring package, log in to your account. Once logged in, select the “Groups” icon on the left,  Select the group with your tutor and from the group you can upload documents or share messages.   

Group Classes

From our home page select “Group Classes” or “Class Calendar” to view offerings. Select a class that works for you and your student. Complete the checkout process and pay. Materials will be shipped to the address specified. Classes have up to four students and meet via secure Zoom video class. Each package is made up of 8 thirty-minute sessions. Classes are typically scheduled twice a week for four weeks.

Group classes include 8 thirty-minute sessions over four weeks with a handwriting specialist for $279.  Each student will be sent physical materials and given access to our digital handwriting software. For classes focused on print, physical materials will include a student edition workbook and manipulatives(Wood Pieces, Mat, Slate, Little Chalk Bits, Sponge Cubes, and Pencils for Little Hands). For classes focused on cursive, materials will include a student edition workbook, Writing Journal, Building Writers book, and Regular Notebook Paper.

Class instructors will typically assign about 10 minutes of daily practice between class sessions.

If your materials have not arrived prior to the start of the class, notebook paper and a pencil/crayon can be used to participate until they arrive. Notify your tutor that you have not received the materials so they can provide additional instructions and in some cases worksheets to print out during the session.

Once logged in, select the “Groups” icon on the left,  Select the group with your tutor and from the group you can upload documents or share messages.   

General

Tutoring packages and small group classes are targeted at students in grades Kindergarten – 3rd grade.  If you have question or request regarding a student in a different grade level, please Contact Us.

Yes, a parent or caregiver must be present during the sessions. Parents/Caregivers can assist the student and are welcome to ask questions.

Prior to the start of a session, please ensure that your student is setup with the following:

  • Writing utensils – pencils and/or crayons
  • Table or desk in a quiet, distraction-free location where the student can comfortably sit and write
  • Computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera that can sit on the table
  • Internet connection capable and ability to access Zoom classes
  • Materials sent by Learning Without Tears and/or any specific print outs emailed

All our tutors and instructors are Learning Without Tears (HWT) Level 1 Certified Handwriting Specialists. They are occupational therapists, teachers, and educators who have specialized skills and experience using HWT’s award-winning curriculum. They are passionate about educating others about handwriting and seek to promote good handwriting habits for all children.

Our instructors are spread out around North America. The tutoring and class time zones on the LWT website are in your local time zone.

Payment is accepted via credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Amex, Discover).

If after booking a tutoring package or small group class you choose to withdraw, please Contact Us. If you withdraw at least 24 hours prior to the first session you will receive a full refund. There are no refunds for withdrawing after that time frame.
